Howard City WiFiHoward City Goes WirelessHOWARD CITY, MICH. — The Village of Howard City now provides free Wireless Internet (WiFi) throughout its downtown area. Howard City has negotiated an agreement with Jason Smith of All In One Wireless, Inc to broadcast wireless Internet throughout downtown Howard City in return for locating a commercial antenna on the Village’s Water Tower. The WiFi will cover from Shaw St. to Williams St. and Lincoln St. to Cass St. - six square blocks. “The free WiFi is a great amenity for Village residents” noted Mark Rambo, Village Manager “it also serves an economic development purpose by enticing potential shoppers and restaurant goers into the Howard City area.” A recent community survey indicated that more than seventy percent of Village residents owned a computer. “I think this is a very proactive move for our community,” noted Rambo “it is important to keep current with today’s technology.” To connect to the system you will need a computer that has wireless capability. Once in the WiFi coverage area your system should auto recognize the Howard City WiFi. Some users may need to open network settings, view available wireless networks and select “Howard City Wi-Fi.” “The system is live and we are encouraging residents to give it a try” commented Rambo, “the preliminary tests went well but I am sure we will find some spots in the downtown where we may need to make some adjustments.”
