When does the Village remove snow? Snow is removed as it begins to accumulate. First, we
concentrate on major streets, hills, hazardous intersections and
school areas. Then attention is given to residential areas. Why do residential areas get plowed last? We must keep major streets open to allow buses and emergency
vehicles access to all parts of our Village. As soon as major
streets are clear, equipment is moved into residential areas. What about parking on the street?Section 48.001 of
the Village Ordinance states that "No person or
persons, firm or corporation shall park or permit to remain parked, any
motor vehicle on any street of the Village between the hours of 2:00
A.M. and 7:00 A.M. at any time during the year. No person, firm,
corporation, or other entity shall park or permit to remain parked any
any large truck, as defined herein, on any Village street at any time."
Note: Vehicles will be towed at the owners expense. Why did you tow
my car?The Village
Council finds that this Ordinance is necessary in order to ensure
clear vision, facilitate fire and police protection, facilitate snow
and refuse removal, and to ensure those areas adjacent to the
traveled portion of the Village streets are open and available, in
order that drivers will have an open area should they have to leave
the traveled portion of the street in order to avoid a dangerous
situation on the traveled roadway.Who removes
the snow from the sidewalk?Section 122.011
of the Village Ordinance states that "The occupant of
every lot or premises adjoining any street, or the owner of such lot
or premises, if the same are not occupied, shall clear all ice and
snow from sidewalks adjoining such lot or premises within the time
herein required. When any snow shall fall or drift upon any sidewalk
during the night-time, such snow shall be cleared from the sidewalks
by 12:00 o'clock noon. Snow falling or accumulating during the day
shall be cleared from the sidewalks by 12:00 o'clock noon of the day
following."Section 122.011
of the Village Ordinance states that If any occupant or owner shall
neglect or fail to clear ice or snow from the sidewalk adjoining his
premises within the time limited, or shall other-wise permit ice or
snow to accumulate on such sidewalk, he shall be guilty of a
violation of this Chapter and in addition, the Superintendent may
cause the same to be cleared and the expense of removal shall be
collectable as provided in section 10 of Chapter VII of the Charter.Who do I call if I have a problem with snow removal? Call the Municipal Services Department, Monday through Friday,
8:00am to 4:30pm, (231) 937-4311, extension #4.
